a lamentation for innocence
a lamentation for innocence
when i was a child
i believed
i believed in God
in the Flag
in Freedom
i spake as a child
and acted accordingly
but gradually
the scales fell from my eyes
(O that they were still there and i had my innocence)
the scales fell from my eyes
and i saw through all the lies
and now
no longer believing the fairy tales of my youth
no longer believing in anything
i speak as a Man
where only those that still believe
the lies that they are fed
can find succor
and i lament
i believed
in the Flag
in Freedom
and acted accordingly
the scales fell from my eyes
(O that they were still there and i had my innocence)
the scales fell from my eyes
and i saw through all the lies
no longer believing the fairy tales of my youth
no longer believing in anything
i speak as a Man
the lies that they are fed
can find succor

Another word for innocence is ignorance, for the child this is okay for they need ignorance to grow in security, but when adulthood comes then ignorance is a curse allowing the parasitic authority figure to rape and destroy you.
